Bleeding Heart by Amber Stokes: Blogtour & Giveaway

Bleeding Heart by Amber Stokes
Five bleeding hearts. One profound journey.
Summer 1886
Sally Clay’s livelihood has been snatched away, but in its place arises an opportunity to escape from her sordid past and an unrelenting, unwanted suitor. Boarding a train with a heartsick rancher and an enigmatic miner, she leaves Virginia City behind and heads to Northern California, waiting for the chance to make right what went wrong three long years before.
But the road to revenge is far from smooth. Sally soon learns that the jagged pieces of a broken heart can far too easily wound the hearts of others – and hers isn’t the only heart that’s broken. Tragedy and fear dog her steps as she flees from the redwood forests to the high desert and back again. Will her bleeding heart ever find a way and a place to heal?
A desperate soiled dove. Three men who come to care for her. One man determined to claim her.
All on a journey that will show them what true love really involves.
It is not often that you find a story so beautifully composed with gut-wrenching loss and heart happy healing. The juxtaposition of these two weave a captivating story. Bleeding Heart is definitely not your run of the mill romance. It hits hard on loving through loss, drawing on raw emotion and tangible grief while gently introducing wounded hearts to the healing power of kindness and self-sacrifice.
And THAT is what makes this novel such a wonderful read – it’s relatable, it’s real – instead of leaving the reader with wistful reflections of a flowery romance, Bleeding Heart reveals a greater purpose. Confused hearts, misguided assumptions, glimpses of mercy, and the joy of open hearts echo our not-so- fiction lives almost as well as they  resonate with Ms. Stokes fiction and the character’s she’s created.
With an obvious love for language and a gentle wisdom that trickles down through her words, Ms. Stokes has penned a book worth reading.

  1. Good morning Samantha Jo, What a great review of Bleeding Hearts. Yes, it does break tradition and thank goodness. I really get tired of the whitewashing in most Christian novels. Christans as well as others need to learn how to find hope when times are tough. I am discovering that Amber does a great job with giving us hope through the trials.

    1. Aww, thank you, Sandra! I think there's a place for the more light-hearted stories, for sure, but I agree that Christian fiction in general shouldn't shy away from asking the difficult questions and wrestling with painful realities. What kind of hope are we presenting if it's not one that stands amid the messes and troubles and sorrows of this world?

    2. Well put Sandra! It's the hope part that shines through, I think... :)

  2. What a beautiful review, Samantha! I'm blessed to know you found Bleeding Heart to be all of that. :) *Hugs* Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

    1. It really was a beautiful story - so much wisdom packed in - and you did a wonderful job with those plot twists... I found myself thinking "What!" and then loving how it changed the story and the characters. Great job, Amber!

    2. Oh, I'm so glad to hear that! The characters sure do go through a lot, but I'm happy to know you liked where it all ended up and how it all made the characters grow. :) Thank you!!
